At the young age of 16 Gian started his entry in to the restaurant business at his family's establishment, Giumarello's. He jumped in as a prep cook and worked his way up to a line chef position. He still yearned for a more extensive knowledge of the culinary world and in 1993 he took the leap and worked under world renown Chef Yann Machard at Symphony Desserts. He then moved on to work in the infamous Italian pastry house of Terminis in Philadelphia. These experiences inspired Gian dream up a counter part of his family's restaurant. In 1995 he opened Giumarello's Pastries. He successfully ran and operated the pastry shop until 1998 when he decided to join forces in partnership with his family's endeavor at Giumarello's Restaurant. Gian re-joined his family’s business with more ideas of expanding his range and that of the restaurants’. He choose to attend the International Bartending School as Giumarello's Restaurant was planning to expand in a new location with a bar. As owner-mixologist, Gian created an award winning martini menu, a extensively researched wine list, and sought after international and craft beer selections. With all its growth, Gian developed "The G Bar" concept of expansion. It was a natural progression due to the popularity of the restaurants bar scene. Today, the G Bar has become one of the main driving forces behind Giumarello's restaurant's achievements, with over 30 years in the industry, Gian thrives on constant change to stay ahead of trends and to heighten his customers experience.
In 2017, he was inspired with a idea & concept to run a more casual craft beer bar serving homemade comfort food, all at reasonable prices and a more casual atmosphere. Gibbstown was the perfect fit as his wife, Giovanna was born and raised in the town. Thus, Local was born, a hometown craft beer bar serving traditional bar bites along with homestyle cooking with a fresh take on comfort foods using only the best ingredients. Today, Gian, together with Giovanna, own and operate Local. The concept of Local was to create a space in the community where people could comfortably enjoy new flavors, experience local breweries and connect with the neighborhood . They strive to create a setting for their customers to feel at home and welcomed. They respect their tastes and time and do so in aiming to give them an extension of themselves. They will always endeavor to keep them deliciously fed, entertained and with an impeccable beer in hand.
